30-Day Map Challenge: Created in Cadence

Exploring place, creativity, and data for 30 days

This page showcases a month-long exploration of geospatial storytelling created entirely within Cadence. As part of the global 30 Day Map Challenge, one of our internal users set out to design a new map every day using different datasets, styles, and techniques to push the boundaries of what Cadence can do.

Below is an embedded Cadence story that brings all 30 maps together into a single interactive experience. Scroll through the story to explore the themes, datasets, and design decisions behind each map using the same tools available to every Cadence user.

Why this challenge matters

The 30 Day Map Challenge is more than a creative exercise. It is a way to demonstrate how flexible and powerful Cadence can be for map makers of all skill levels.

Through this challenge, we have shown that Cadence supports:

  • Rapid map creation using built-in styling and layer management
  • Data exploration across open datasets, internal layers, and custom uploads
  • Storytelling workflows using the Cadence Story builder
  • Consistent cartography with reusable themes and layouts
  • Sharing and collaboration with colleagues and external stakeholders

This challenge helps showcase real examples of what is possible when users experiment with the platform in a structured and creative way.

About the embedded story

The story above brings together all 30 maps, each corresponding to the daily prompts from the challenge such as points, lines, polygons, black and white, population, movement, contrast, water and more.

Each slide includes:

  • A high-quality map created in Cadence
  • A short description of the day’s prompt
  • Notes on the data sources used
  • A summary of the approach taken in Cadence
  • Any interesting insights discovered along the way

The result is a scrollable and interactive journey through a month of mapping without leaving the platform.

What you can do next

If you are inspired by this project, you can:

  • Start your own 30 Day Map Challenge using Cadence
  • Fork the story and adapt it for your own datasets
  • Create a team challenge to explore data themes relevant to your organisation
  • Share your story using Cadence’s publish and share features

Whether you are practising cartography, experimenting with data, or simply exploring what Cadence can do, this challenge is a great way to learn, iterate and have fun along the way.
