LDA Design were commissioned on behalf of the Forest of Dean Council to evaluate the sustainability of different spatial growth options. The design team used Cadence’s isochrone feature to understand the travel times from key amenities (including schools, retail and healthcare) and identify the most sustainable sites for development.
A series of seven potential sites was identified, which were imported into Cadence. Using Cadence’s in-built Databank, key points of interest were added, including schools, retail and healthcare facilities. Cadence’s Isochrone Feature was used to create travel time maps to understand the access to destinations and potential sites by a range of sustainable transport modes – such as walking, cycling and e-Bike. Wider accessibility via public transport to employment destinations outside of the town was also assessed using Cadence’s public transport analysis tools.
Using Cadence, all mapping and analysis were consolidated into an interactive presentation that enabled stakeholders to visually understand and interrogate the different site options. This interactive showcasing of the analysis helped facilitate understanding and helped stakeholders achieve consensus.
Outcomes
Cadence helped elevate sustainable transport analysis enabling this to be conducted interactively and easily shared with stakeholders. Cadence’s presentational features ensured the project was highly collaborative, enhancing stakeholder deliberations and discussions.
